Mission

It is the mission of the African American Civil War Museum to correct a great wrong in history which pretty much ignored the heroic role of 209,145 US Colored Troops in ending slavery and keeping America united under one flag. The Museum uses a rich collection of artifacts, documents, primary sources, and technology to create a meaningful learning experience for families, students, Civil War enthusiasts, and historians about the period from the American Civil War to Civil Rights and beyond.

Fieldtrips

We now have two options for field trips; virtual and outdoors at the African American Civil War Memorial. Beginning in February indoor visits to the Museum will be curtailed to allow for our exhibits to be moved to their new home. Fieldtrips entering the museum will resume later in 2022. We offer a self-guided 3D tour of the exhibit and our award-winning “School of the Soldier Program.” Download our new field trip guide.
